I haven’t drawn pretty much since I was in my early 20’s…. I do draw logos and costume designs, but I haven’t done portraits or landscapes in years. I used to draw with pencil, pen & ink, oil paints and pastels. My mother was a portrait artist, and quite good at it, but I saw her struggle with making a career of it. I saw that after awhile, it became a chore, and while she loved doing it, she also stressed over her commissioned work. Because of that I stopped when I was in my 20’s, totally stopped, all artwork other than photography and designs.
So tonight, I thought to get back to it. My niece, Ashley, is an amazing artist, she is creative and does such beautiful work. My mother had an art book that I now have, that she used, to perfect her human and animal anatomy. When I was young, I used this book to learn to draw. I mostly did eyes and animals from it. So I promised this book to Ashley, and I know that her grandmother, my mother, would love for her to have it. I haven’t opened this book in years, and I mean years! I was probably in my teens the last time I used it. Tonight I thought to open it and look through it. I was inspired to start drawing, although my drawing did not consist of paper and a pencil, this time I used an Apple Pencil and an app called Procreate on my iPad. For my logo work and costume design I always draw with paper and pencil, but tonight I did everything on my iPad. I started with drawing eyes, eyes were always what I did best. Then I thought to do a nose, then a mouth, then added a face shape, shading, and it developed into this. This is nobody in particular, just a lady. It’s not perfect, but I’m happy with it, especially for not doing this after so many years.
I don’t know if I will do it again, but I’m satisfied with this for now.
As always,
Thank you for reading this!
