I spent some of my morning yesterday at the Japanese Botanical Gardens in Fort Worth. Autumn is especially beautiful there, the colors of the leaves turning colors, sparkle in the strong morning light and in the reflection of the moving waters.
I’ve been thinking about doing this for awhile. Back in 2011, I went to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. At the entrance to the conservatory building, they have a small garden with sculptures of dancers. I started photographing them. When I got home and put them on my computer, I fell in love with the perspective. I tried to capture the sculptures in a way that made them come to life. I noticed that there are bronze sculptures scattered all around Fort Worth and I decided that one day I will take the time to start photographing each one, so today was the day that I decided to start. They are all beautiful and unique in their own way and for many, they are just viewable while driving by because so many are in unusual locations. Here are the dancers that I photographed back in 2011, I will go back one day soon and see if I can find the artist, and I will add it to this post.
This is a sculpture in Trinity Park of Mark Twain along the Trinity River. It was given to the families of Fort Worth for the joys of reading. The sculpture was created by Gary Price in 2001, his signature is on the back of his jacket.
I’ve always passed the Policeman and Fireman’s Memorial in Trinity Park along 7th Avenue, but this was the first time I stopped to visit. It was very interesting and moving. There are stone and marble memorials along a curved path that leads to the main part of the memorial. The path is lined with memorials of firefighters and policemen who lost their lives in the line of duty. On one side is the firemen and the other side has the peace officers. On each memorial is a story about how the person lost their life and where they are buried.
The main sculpture is of a Peace Officer and a Firefighter on either side of the horse, both of them holding the reins. There are backward facing boots on the riderless horse to honor a fallen hero and to signify that they will never ride again.
And then my final stop was a sculpture of a soldier carrying a wounded soldier. It is dedicated to all Veterans. I drive past this often, but this is the first time I stopped to see it up close. I’m not sure who sculpted it, I couldn’t get up high enough to see if it was signed, but I’m sure it must be.
Somebody left fresh carnations in an empty wine bottle at the base of it.
There are so many more interesting sculptures around Fort Worth, so in the coming weeks and months I will visit them and post photos.
